Swaziland's MTN BUSHFIRE Festival is an annual Pan African explosion of international arts hosted at House on Fire, one of the most magical venues in the world!
There is something for everyone at the family friendly event which prides itself on the diversity of its audience – each year, 20,000 people gather together over the MTN BUSHFIRE weekend (25, 26, 27 May 2012) to celebrate cultural meeting points, fuelling a feast of art from Africa and beyond. Besides world class music performances, MTN BUSHFIRE programmes theatre, film, visual arts and this year the arena sees the premiere of a new venue – The Barn: a space dedicated to the stimulation of dialogue around Swaziland’s most pertinent and topical issues. Alongside it’s 4 stages, MTN BUSHFIRE returns with its well-loved Handcraft market – offering the highest quality, hand made, fair trade products and the ever popular Food Fair to passionately tantalize your taste buds!
By buying a ticket, you will also be doing your part for charity and the local community. MTN BUSHFIRE is a unique socially conscious platform that donates 100% of the profits to Young Heroes, a Swazi NGO providing support to AIDS affected orphans (www.youngheroes.org.sz) and 100% of its merchandising profits to Gone Rural boMake.
A ground breaking study conducted by the Danish Centre for Culture and Development into the economic impact of Bushfire demonstrates that typically for every ZAR1 generated at the festival, ZAR6 is generated for the Swazi economy. In 2011 Bushfire generated an estimated income of ZAR12 million in tourist receipts for Swaziland.
