MTN Bushfire Schools’ Festival 2018: Applications close on the 29th of March

The 9th edition of the Schools’ Festival will take place on the 21st to 24th of May 2018. This year the MTN Schools’ festival mandate will focus on Child Social protection. Child protection aims at promoting stable, interactive relationships to ensure child development. Children will approach those themes through creative performances, workshops, educational seminars.

This year the MTN Foundation, who has been the title sponsor for the festival since 2009, has donated E390 000 to the MTN Bushfire Schools’ Festival. For years this partnership between the MTN Foundation and MTN Bushfire has contributed to the development of a platform for creative expression so as to support the growth of arts education in Swaziland and encourage positive social behaviour change in Swazi youth.

The European Union whose goal is to promote arts and culture in the school curriculum, has been supporting the Primary school festival for three years. This year again, the Primary Schools Festival supported by MTN Bushfire and the European Union will benefit from the EU’s generous support.

The MTN Bushfire School’s Festival 2018 program will be as follows:

Monday 21st of May will host teacher and facilitator Workshops in order to create a sustainable approach to arts education where participants will be equipped with skills they can use throughout the academic year.

Tuesday 22nd will host The Student Workshops program which will offer a full day of workshops for 150 high school students from across Swaziland.

The High Schools’ Open Day will take place on the 23rd of May it will be the biggest day of the festival and will host around 600 students from 40 schools. The High Schools’ Open Day consists in a unique platform for creative expression and dialogue so as to counter the lack of a formal arts curriculum in public schools in Swaziland, MTN Bushfire Schools’ Festival working hands in hands with the National Curriculum Centre towards an improved arts curriculum in Swaziland.

The Primary Schools’ Festival will take place on the 24th of May and will host 600 pupils from 40 Primary schools. It will be supported by MTN Bushfire and the EU, the Primary Schools’ Open Day will especially focus on the theme of Child Social Protection and will follow the format of the High Schools’ Open Day with content adjusted to a more age appropriate approach to social behavioral change.

 

How to apply?

For schools who are interested in applying for the MTN Bushfire Schools’ Festival 2018 please note that the application forms for the Schools’ Festival are available at REOs (Regional Education Office) across the country where teachers can pick them up, fill them in on behalf of their schools and return them to the MTN Bushfire offices in Malkerns or submit to projectsassistant@bush-fire.com.
