Tribute to a Legend: Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi RIP

MTN Bushfire expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and associates of the late, great Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi. Another African legend has fallen, yet his legacy will live on through his music and words.

MTN Bushfire has been honoured to host Tuku previously, and he was also scheduled to perform at this year’s event. His musical presence will be sorely missed by all in attendance. Mtukudzi performed at MTN Bushfire in both 2014 and 2016, the 10th anniversary of the festival and it was one of the highlights of the event on both occasions.

Mtukudzi’s incredible career and musical legacy were distinctly in-tune with the African inspired ethos of MTN Bushfire. As anyone who has attended an MTN Bushfire Festival can attest, MTN Bushfire is more than a festival, it’s a living, breathing ecosystem deeply rooted in African soil, yet inclusive and welcoming to guests from all over the world. This uniquely African, and yet globally infused festival experience welcomes thousands in an atmosphere of tolerance and passionate commitment to music, the arts and the environment.

The entire team at MTN Bushfire pays tribute to this icon and friend.
